The date presentation

Below is the clip of the short film I chose with my partner Charlotte. Hope you enjoy it 🙂

Evaluating my presentation

Strengths and weaknesses
I felt the presentation was quite clear and well spoken. The audience understood the short film very well which was great and overall we tried to get the class to stay interacted. I was quite nervous at first to stand up and present to the class but I felt more confident as it started. The only weaker sides were the repetition of some words in the presentation.

Delivery of presentation

The pace was average, I memorized what information were on some slides which benefited in the eye contact which worked well as I kept looking at specific people and tried to not look at the notes.
The tone was also good; it wasn’t too loud or too quiet and there weren’t any awkward pauses but just laughs between Charlotte and I and the audience which was good in a sense because it showed they are enjoying the presentation.
However the pace was a tad too fast at some points but it was still quite steady and they weren’t any odd body movements used however sometimes I would focus too much on the slide which meant the audience wouldn’t see my face.
I did point to some images while explaining them that seemed helpful as the audience can see what I am referring too.

How could you improve on this for next time?

I will slow down and rehearse more on the main points. Also use games, puzzles, questions to make more interaction with the audience. When asking a question, pick someone specifically.

Content of presentation

There was a clear ending of the presentation and start but that wasn’t recorded on camera. The ending had a quiz which audiences realize the production is finishing.
Mostly everything was discussed clearly but there was one part in the narrative structure that was confusing.
Plus the sound section there was too much text written which could distract the audience and get their attention lost.
DESIGN & LAYOUT – The design was dark pink and silver but it wasn’t too bright because I wanted the audience to focus on the text as well as the imagery used to connect with the words.
For the camera work we print screened 4 different images which was quite creative and explained them with the class.
( pictures 🙂 )
However on the sound slide there was too much text but we tried to make it as entertaining as possible, and even though the representation slide had too little text the audience still seemed to keep involved which was great. 🙂

How could you improve on this for next time?

Make sure I go over all the points carefully and I could have expanded more information on the representation section.

Overall I was quite pleased with the feedback given, the audience seemed to enjoy the layout, structure and short film. I was happy they understood the actual film and made great answers when questions were being asked.  We used all the 4 conventions:
-Mise en scene
-Camerawork
-Sound
-Editing

There was good use of imagery and not just pure text to make it boring as we wanted the audience to stay engaged throughout the presentation.

Our teachers made us compare our presentations to actual speeches and I chose Barack Obama’s speech. This is what I noticed:

Barack Obama’s Speech

  • He was very well spoken and it was clear he had memorised a speech.
  • He doesn’t move around, he stays in one position behind the stand so the audience are engaging with his words and concentrating on himself.
  • He doesn’t talk too fast, it’s very well paced and he seems very confident.
  • His points get straight to the point, and don’t drag on to make it boring.
  • He projects his voice clearly and uses different tones. For example he may get slightly louder when thanking people who are very important to him and then will go down to a quieter tone on other points.
  • His facial expressions are quite calm, but serious and stern. He comes across as a humble, friendly guy who doesn’t seem bigheaded on his victory.

I noticed I had a few similar traits such as well paced and and quite clear and well spoken.   🙂

Introduction

Hello, my name is Liyah Satnarine and I am 17 years of age studying media studies in Wanstead high school. I enjoyed the course last year and decided to continue studying it to try and receive a higher grade with my new group.  🙂

This year I am working with Georgina and Fay      🙂

Brief

The brief is to create a short film of 5 minutes within your group of 3-4 members on any genre you like. E.g. A comedy, drama, thriller etc. This year it also includes creating a poster of the film as well as a review. This is different from our AS because we only had to create a 2 minute piece of film and the genre had to be a thriller. We also had to have specific camera shots used. This year will be much more challenging as we will have to time ourselves more to be able to fit in all the filming because it’s a longer film and to ensure we have a variety of shots to choose from to make the film as interesting as possible. Since were able to choose any genre we have to come up with lots of ideas and watch much more short films to get a feeling of different genre techniques. Last year we had more assistance because it was our first time but this year I think were going to have to be more independent on blogging, editing and filming because we have to schedule enough time for all, and teachers want to see how much progress we have learnt from the year before. Overall it will be 100% more effort but we are used to all the equipment and conventions so should be fine. J
The only new items introduced are the poster and review which each group has to do.

Short Films

Throughout our last weeks of AS we started watching short films within the class and on our own to create ideas for our actual short film in A2. In class we had to do a presentation with a partner about one short film you liked. The short films we watched as classes were love field, stripes, juicy turkey, tik tok, and many more. The one that stood out the most to me will always be Juicy Turkey and Lovefield. The film had such a big twist to it, it stayed in my memory. The French family is having dinner and the mother has accidently cooked the baby again. But it has happened more than once as we see at the end the different pots the babies have been buried in. The story can be either taking as a comedy or just weird or unlikeable but I found it to be quite different and captivating.

Lovefield on the other hand was my favourite, it played with viewers minds as to think what is actually happening. Our teacher made us look at the imagery and think of genres it could be associated with, at first I thought it could have been a romantic short film but as it goes on you discover the change in imagery and how dull the atmosphere becomes making it seem like a dangerous, risky area to be in. However towards the end we discover it’s not so terrible and is a beautiful, happy ending. The mise en scene, sound and camerawork play a big role in the film.

One film I would love to watch is the short film Colourbleed. Students in my new class have said it was one of the best films they watched.
The trailers really interesting and has given me ideas for my own short film     🙂
Take a look.
