Below is the clip of the short film I chose with my partner Charlotte. Hope you enjoy it 🙂
Evaluating my presentation
Strengths and weaknesses
I felt the presentation was quite clear and well spoken. The audience understood the short film very well which was great and overall we tried to get the class to stay interacted. I was quite nervous at first to stand up and present to the class but I felt more confident as it started. The only weaker sides were the repetition of some words in the presentation.
Delivery of presentation
The pace was average, I memorized what information were on some slides which benefited in the eye contact which worked well as I kept looking at specific people and tried to not look at the notes.
The tone was also good; it wasn’t too loud or too quiet and there weren’t any awkward pauses but just laughs between Charlotte and I and the audience which was good in a sense because it showed they are enjoying the presentation.
However the pace was a tad too fast at some points but it was still quite steady and they weren’t any odd body movements used however sometimes I would focus too much on the slide which meant the audience wouldn’t see my face.
I did point to some images while explaining them that seemed helpful as the audience can see what I am referring too.
How could you improve on this for next time?
I will slow down and rehearse more on the main points. Also use games, puzzles, questions to make more interaction with the audience. When asking a question, pick someone specifically.
Content of presentation
There was a clear ending of the presentation and start but that wasn’t recorded on camera. The ending had a quiz which audiences realize the production is finishing.
Mostly everything was discussed clearly but there was one part in the narrative structure that was confusing.
Plus the sound section there was too much text written which could distract the audience and get their attention lost.
DESIGN & LAYOUT – The design was dark pink and silver but it wasn’t too bright because I wanted the audience to focus on the text as well as the imagery used to connect with the words.
For the camera work we print screened 4 different images which was quite creative and explained them with the class.
( pictures 🙂 )
However on the sound slide there was too much text but we tried to make it as entertaining as possible, and even though the representation slide had too little text the audience still seemed to keep involved which was great. 🙂
How could you improve on this for next time?
Make sure I go over all the points carefully and I could have expanded more information on the representation section.
Overall I was quite pleased with the feedback given, the audience seemed to enjoy the layout, structure and short film. I was happy they understood the actual film and made great answers when questions were being asked. Â We used all the 4 conventions:
-Mise en scene
-Camerawork
-Sound
-Editing
There was good use of imagery and not just pure text to make it boring as we wanted the audience to stay engaged throughout the presentation.
Our teachers made us compare our presentations to actual speeches and I chose Barack Obama’s speech. This is what I noticed:
Barack Obama’s Speech
- He was very well spoken and it was clear he had memorised a speech.
- He doesn’t move around, he stays in one position behind the stand so the audience are engaging with his words and concentrating on himself.
- He doesn’t talk too fast, it’s very well paced and he seems very confident.
- His points get straight to the point, and don’t drag on to make it boring.
- He projects his voice clearly and uses different tones. For example he may get slightly louder when thanking people who are very important to him and then will go down to a quieter tone on other points.
- His facial expressions are quite calm, but serious and stern. He comes across as a humble, friendly guy who doesn’t seem bigheaded on his victory.Â
I noticed I had a few similar traits such as well paced and and quite clear and well spoken.  🙂Â
